Coefficient of Friction
Coefficient of Friction is a much misunderstood term and depends on many factors, including pressure, speed and temperature. The friction of PolyDyn Coatings is relatively constant over a range of increasing pressure from .2 psi to 400,000 psi and from liquid hydrogen temperatures of -420º F to +550º F. As speed increases, C increases but remains well below (better than) the values of other dry film lubricants.
Because of the film transfer of PTFE from coating to mating part, frictional values are similar for all mating materials as long as the surface finish is 50 rms or better (smoother).
Frictional oscillation (stick-slip, chatter) is virtually non-existent. It is this ability to perform uniformly over a wide range of conditions that distinguishes these coatings from other dry film lubricants.
A dramatic example of PolyDyn Coating's "in-service" performance is illustrated by fasteners used on pipe lines and related petrochemical equipment. PolyDyn properties improve their function and extend their life span.
Fastener nuts do not become "frozen" onto the stud shafts and corrosive deterioration is halted. Fastener installation and removal is simplified because PolyDyn reduces make-up and break-out torque.
PolyDyn Coatings differ from traditional fluorocarbon coatings in one very important aspect: they are compostible materials. Fluoropolymers with the lowest coefficient of friction known are combined in a matrix with the newest high temperature organic polymers. United, these polymers from "plastic alloys" having unique and desirable properties.
Low friction: low as 0.02.
Wear resistance: even beneath extreme pressure.
Corrosion resistance: in most chemical environments.
Weather resistance: against sunlight, saltwater and road chemicals.
Wide temperature operating range: from -420ºF to +550ºF.
Flexible curing schedule: ambient to 550ºF.
Wide color range: color code your product.
Pliability: PolyDyn coatings will bend freely and repeatedly without breaking
Machineability: apply multiple coats of PolyDyn Coating (most formulations) and mill to specification.
Excellent adhesion: to most metals, plastics, ceramics, wood, even to itself.
